What you will need:
- Old hardcover books, about 8
- Lamp kit
- Lamp Shade or Edison Bulb (for a shadeless look)
- Spray Paint (oil rubbed bronze)
- Drill or Drill press
- 1/2″ drill bit
- razor blade or box cutter
- 1-1/4″ screws
- 2″ screws
Spray paint lamp fittings to desired color, and allow it to dry.
Stack your books and line your lamp kit’s rod up next to the stacked books to ensure the correct height. Make sure you have at least one inch of rod that will be sticking out of the top book to allow for the lamp assembly.
Clamp your first book down to a work table and drill into the book with a 1/2″ drill bit or use a drill press.
Repeat this step until all books have a hole except the bottom book. For the bottom book, lift open the bottom cover and drill through rest of book (leaving bottom cover un-drilled).
Cut out a “channel” of sorts on the bottom book with a box cutter to allow room for the cord while the book remains closed and flat.
Thread your lamp kit’s rod through the books and screw the remainder of your lamp kit together.
You may choose to hang a lampshade off the lamp’s harp with a finial or simply go shadeless and display a retro Edison bulb.
